Sustainability
The Porter and Woodman Group is committed to a sustainable future.
We are committed to promoting environmentally responsible practices. We prioritise the use of wood suppliers that conform to the guidelines set by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This ensures that the timber we purchase is of high quality and sourced sustainably, without contributing to a net shift in the global Carbon budget. For more information, you can visit their website at http://www.fsc-uk.org/en-uk/about-fsc/who-is-fsc.
When it comes to sourcing softwood, we specifically partner with Scandinavian mills that undergo FSC audits and also adhere to their own country's stringent environmental policies. These mills prioritise reforestation by planting more trees than they harvest, ensuring a positive impact on the environment.
We take pride in the contents of our hampers, sourcing them as locally as possible without compromising on quality. We support small suppliers who provide excellent quality products. In doing so, we actively promote traditional and artisanal methods of production, striving to preserve and sustain local traditions while supporting their economic viability.
A significant aspect of our commitment to sustainability is ensuring that the items we sell have a lifespan beyond their initial use as packaging. We encourage the reuse of wooden crates, wicker baskets, and 'Bag for Life' options, as they possess intrinsic value and can be used in homes, offices, or retail spaces for storage and presentation purposes.
When it comes to packaging and waste management, we adopt various environmentally friendly practices.
Our packaging options include crumpled paper made from 100% recycled material, which is both recyclable and biodegradable. We also utilise recycled air cushions, known as air strips, to reduce plastic pollution and minimise landfill waste. Additionally, our bubble wrap and bags are made from recycled materials. The baskets we use, such as willow, seagrass, and bamboo, are sourced from entirely renewable resources. Finally, our outer boxes are made from 100% recyclable cardboard, ensuring minimal impact on the environment.
By implementing these practices and constantly seeking new ways to improve, we strive to minimise our ecological footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future.
